how to boil water (and eggs)

After years of guessing (or calling home) every time I attempted to hard boil eggs - something I only did sporadically, admittedly - I stumbled on a pretty idiotproof method to get it right every time, so I thought I'd share. I've had friends call me to ask how to make hard-boiled eggs. Sadly, one friend I'm thinking of in particular is a really lousy cook and she still screwed it up. Oh dear. :P

I've only ever heard "boil it for twenty minutes." As such, I'm sure mine are over-boiled, though I wouldn't know how to tell. If it's solid on the inside, it's done; the more done the better, right?

Well, toooo done and the yolk-white interface just gets darker and sulfurier, to me.
