it's funny to me that we would think of something as timeless as the concept of God, in terms of modern days sins and bible times sins. maybe if that is the understanding that we have of God's word, we're all missing the point.
Dont want to get into a fight with you dan, but I gotta disagree.. god is eternal, but to call him unchanging is to call the bible wrong- God is definitely on a different plane of thought in the new testament than he was in the old testament... I mean, in the old testament, prostitutes and sodomizers and all that got the burning death treatment... new testament? jesus (god) is chillin' with mary magdalene.
I'd say he's able to change however he sees fit. I think he's been slowly retracting his apparent prescence from us (he doesn't set bushes on fire and refer to himself as I am to people anymore...) and going more with a passive approach.
I gotta say, I've changed my whole perspective on christianity... I consider myself a christian now, but not a crazy evangelical talking in tongues christian. I suppose christ and the holy ghost could technically talk through us in an unintelligible language, but I gotta say that christ always struck me as a guy who didn't beat around the bush much... and talking in a language that noone

You know what Mike? I just cant believe or accept that. It's like God is your parent. You're basically saying that as time goes on, just like with your family, God realizes were going to do whatever we want to do anyway. So he might as well just become ok with it. You know your mom isn't going to follow through and actually punish you if you dont do your laundry, so you just stop doing it

I WANT TO START BY SAYING I'M REALLY ENJOYING THIS CONVERSATION, I DON'T GET TO TALK TO ANYONE THAT IS A PART OF MY LIFE ABOUT RELIGION EVER. SO I HOPE THAT NO ONE ELSE IS GETTING BITTER, AND THAT YOU GUYS MIGHT LIKE TO CONTINUE TO DISCUSS THIS FOR THE SAKE OF SHARING OUR OPINIONS

While it is true that jesus was sinless, and he never copped a feel on any of those girls around him, doesn't mean he didn't think about it. There are sins of thought and sins of deed... but the whole catholic notion of impure thoughts is far too rigid for me to believe. Like I said, I stand firm on the idea that god does not want to punish us. he is like a parent. Honestly- he says "thou shalt not kill", and yet wars are fought and those who led the troops are allowed into heaven. He makes the rules, and he can choose who is allowed to break them.
matt- that is far too true. I think the bible would make a whole lot more sense if the words "god" and "jesus Christ" were replaced by the word "love"
