Bleach Nostalgia...

Man, there are some days when I just ache with missing Bleach. Vintage Bleach. Good Bleach. I just can't bring myself to slog through anything after the Fullbringer Arc. I barely survived Hueco Mundo only for the Fullbringers to finish me off. I don't care about the Quincy and nothing I've heard since has tempted me back ( Read more... )

I'm with you on that one. I just uploaded a very, very crackish story featuring the gang that I wrote years ago, and all three of them agreed that the Nakama dynamic has very much gone missing from the series.

And that at the heart of the show, not the over 9000 villains or the battles so much as what the battles represented.

...which, as I typed this, I realized what a wasted opportunity it was to have Rukia defeat Arrancar!Kaien with her third dance as opposed to her bankai. I mean, I was glad to see it happen, but using it against the face of the man that inflected a lot of who she's become would've been the stuff good soaps used to be made of. ;)

Oh, man, I wish Kubo had done more with Aaroniero/Kaien. I was just talking with someone about how epic it would have been if he had been a bigger boss arc rather than just one small fight. The implications of having him wandering around with Kaien's face, using Kaien as a means of provoking all sorts of characters through emotional baiting, manipulation, new flashbacks, maybe some revelations about soul society since he was around for so long, etc ( ... )

As a fellow.KaiRuki fangirl, I'm all about that tangent. After all, just about every other dead character besides Masaki* has returned in some form, so why not him?

*course, the end is still a ways off, so I won't rule her or some Aizen-induced doppleganger yet. :/

Sadly a lot of my rec lists have defunct links. And the person who put together most of the recs I liked has disappeared =(

Aw, that's sad to hear.

I saved a ton of my favs back in the day so I still have them on my laptop, but I could never get them all. Bleach authors were prolific back in the day. Sigh.

I wonder what it would take to reignite this fandom. Nothing short of an Ichiruki wedding maybe?

Well to be honest, the latest chapters have been enjoyable for me, but there are a lot of.... long periods...... to get there. Also, there are some really great IchiRuki moments (welp, especially towards the end) in the FullBring arc + some tidbits in the Quincy arc. Ignoring Inoue has been my way of surviving though. She just doesn't get better.

But if you really are nostalgic of the old Bleach, go read Noragami. This is such a perfect shounen (alas, it's monthly). Reading it, especially the beginning, reminded me so much of old Bleach.

I made it through the Fullbringer arc, but even Rukia's appearance at the end couldn't save it for me. Maybe because it felt like a weaker rehash of past reunions? Or maybe because I really hate her makeover? #shallow lol.

Tidbits in the Quincy arc, huh? Well, that's better than nothing.

I will check that out! Thanks!

Well, I think that if only for Rukia's development (bankai, at least!) it's worth reading lol. Plus lots of sibling moments with Byakuya. So yay!

Hopefully you'll get on the Noragami bandwagon. It's really great. Me and Sea keep raving about it!

I know it's been a while and you've been working on other fics, but do you think you'll ever get back to finishing up What You Wish For? I think I've read it a few times by now as I periodically get Bleach/KaiRuki feels, and I always forget it's unfinished until I reach the end of chapter nine. I want to know what happenssss
