Buddy

It has been a long time since I have posted--raging depression, bacterial lung infection, problems with my house, kidneys, aneurysm, a recent fall and shoulder injury, blah blah--that I grew silent and felt it was best not to burden anyone with the incredible mess my life was in. Nothing good was happening but my domestic violence shelter work ( Read more... )

Your support means more than I can tell you, Cat. One thing I didn't journal about during the ordeal is the guilt I feel about not doing something sooner until I literally was living with terror around and underneath my home. My Inner Critic is having a field day.
You are a very wise woman, and a most valuable friend. What you have said about me not posting has been taken to heart. *Hugs and ♥

Wow. There's not much that can be done with a dog that big and that unsocialized. It's not his fault, poor guy, but you have to do what you have to do. My favorite cat would have fits like that, but he only weighed 18 pounds. It was like he was just GONE, though. Like my cat had just disappeared and been replaced with a psychotic wild animal. He sent me and my roommate both to Urgent Care more than once. And then he'd suddenly snap back to normal and be all lovey.

I'm just glad to see you post at all, since you hadn't said anything since long before the tornadoes!

Thank you, Crossbow, it's good to see you. I feel like I've made it back from the land of the dead. What happened with your cat that would have the wild fits and injure you and your roommate? I agree it wasn't poor Buddy's fault, and I had no choice. It was too lethal a situation.

My cat, Rushford, died of renal failure in January 2010. We learned to just get a door between us and him when he got like that. Cat scratches get infected a lot, but they still can't do anything like the damage a dog can do when it goes crazy.

I hope both Rushford and Buddy are resting in peace.

I am so sorry to hear of your health troubles and Buddy. I've had a cat (Ashley) who was abused at the retirement home where she was a therapy cat. She used to bite very hard whenever anyone touched her back. After trying painkillers and tranquilizers, I did eventually find an alternative medicine practitioner who was able to help her out. She was like a completely different cat, though I was very hesitant about petting her, having gotten used to walking on eggshells around her. By that time, chronic kidney disease had set in. Ashley died back in September 2010 from the kidney disease. My regret was not knowing where to go to help Ashley sooner.

I am so sorry to hear about Ashley, Bastet, but am very glad you were able to find someone who could help her before she died of kidney disease. The vet and I aren't exactly sure what went wrong with Buddy but suspect it may have been some sort of brain disease, or possible distemper. I didn't have him examined after his death (the wild animal specialists disposed of him) so I will never know. Pets can be heartbreaking, eh?
