Norval Morrisseau (Copper Thundebird) died today. I was extremely lucky to catch his exhibition last year at the National Gallery; he was one of my favourite artists and such an important figure in Canadian and First Nations art. His vibrant, powerful images captured the wonder of the spiritual plane, reviving traditional Anishnaabe iconography. I
