I just saw this. This is an argument I have with people all the time, and come to the same conclusions as you about it. I don't believe a House/Wilson romantic relationship is necessary for the show, but for the characters, due to a few things that have happened in the past, I think it is... Logical, consistent, and would tie up loose ends that have been left hanging there. Dramatically, I do think it is a good idea. I'm not sure whether the show's publicity would suffer too much for it, however, but House is a risky show. The problem is, as you've stated here, that anybody who would turn away from the show if this happened is simply a homophobe. I also fear that some shallow people would believe that it had happened only to appease fangirls; that the show had fallen to fanfiction. But I do not see that that would be the case. For the characters, for the show, House/Wilson only makes sense. I'd consider them platonic in seasons 1, 2 and 3, even 4, but things started to develop pretty quickly; or perhaps they had been even in ( ... )
