Thanks! Like I said, The Lady is quite talented with her photography... I'll ruin it with a description of duck poop.
These ducks were nice enough to poop on the dock. The sound of their waste being voided was only slightly less shocking than the pungent smell which followed... first the duck would pause in its movement, then you'd hear a comical squiiir-poit-splat sound.
I worry that these guys will get aggressive too, if only because they're starting to learn that the food comes from the bags we carry and NOT US.
The one duck I'm hand feeding in the pic was the most aggressive, and most uninhibited. Every time I fed him, I tried to establish dominance with a little bit of grooming...as if to say, get any closer and I'll touch you! ...will see what happens
Yeah I think this is the longest that it's ever been... I kind of like it at the length, though I think I'm going to see where it goes, how it looks a little longer.
Besides, it's needed a chance to heal from all the years of trimming with shears.
Aww thanks! (PS: You can't dodge my phone calls forever! Besides, I think you owe me conversation over dinner at Urban Burrito? plus you need to meet The Lady!...and I need to plan a trip up to visit my 2G's who aren't doing so well...I'll keep you posted.)
I love ducks! We've got a whole bunch that live in our neighborhood. Every time they're hanging outside our place when I come home I run in and grab some bread for them.
They're sooo solid too! Children's books make them out to be puff-balls of sweetness, but they really do remind me of minisaurs. Sinewy and full of bite.
We were talking to some local water fowl aficionados and they believe these ducks are a hybrid which makes them rather interesting. Each one has a different pattern and coloration....
Hahah, my dad and I used to always talk about how birds were tiny dinosaurs when I was little. I find ducks much more cute and agreeable than say swans and geese though.
And those ducks are really nifty looking. We just have normal looking mallards.
We have the Mallards too, but these ducks are much bigger, closer to the size of the common white duck. However, they sport iridescent plumage and red nose jigger things (like turkey have). One other interesting note, they are typically quite and make purring and chirping vocalizations as opposed to outright quacking.

I'm used to New York ducks, who steal your food, bite your fingers, crap on your shoes, then swim off laughing. Southern ducks seem nicer. :(

We're out there... problem is, it's often tough to survive when you demand beauty and leisure... as I'm finding out currently.
