Okay again, I don't know the show that well. But I know angels and something about Christianity. And wtf? Latin incantations against demons and hell and it's angels that make things suddenly Christian? Methinks some people are so Judeo-Christian-centric they don't know Judeo-Christian when they've already seen it

Well, the part where Dean sold his soul was actually based in voo-doo folklore about crossroads demons, but he definitely sold it to a very judeo-christian hell. The show has a mytharc and that mytharc definitely pulls from judeo-christian tradition almost completely what with Lilith and Azazel playing major roles and their mother even being named Mary, etc.
Humans are higher beings than angels because angels are made to serve God--which is why Castiel did what he did. Angels don't have to be loving Yeah. I mean, the most powerful force on the show by far has always been Dean's unconditional love for Sam and based on what happened last night, I bet it's going to continue to be. Like, I think what's really been important this entire time has been the fact that, whether or not Sam or Dean have powers, they are capable of making choices that demons (and I'm betting angels) can't make.
Clearly the show isn't coming from a perspective of denying other religions. It's looking at the mythology of this religion and treating it as such

I think I glance at the boards to shudder and give me incentive to write. But thanks. :) I was kinda thrown by the 'but why is it sudenly religious?' question.

However, "free will" is not as free as it would first appear. That is totalitarian but the opposite - blind faith - is the other end of that spectrum. We've spent three years finding the middle ground, trying to draw a tidy line around the gray.
"But we're supposed to struggle, Dean. That's the whole point."
