(i almost typed gay hahaha)

i lol'd!

It was harsh, it's true. And I felt so bad for him when he was lying there with a concussion and Sam was lying to him straight to his face and he just kind of...gave up. That was really sad, actually. But I think Tessa did have to be honest with him, especially since she had just made a speech about, well, honesty. And death is basically as honest as you get. The angels are dangerous and he's either going to be disappointed by the fact that they're using him now or later. I dunno, I guess I kind of saw it as someone looking out for Dean for once.

Shit. Ouch. I wonder how Jensen dealt with doing that scene.

though I thought the sam/ruby part was kind of hot because I'm weird like that.

YES. ALL OF THIS.
Yep yep yep. Right there with ya.
ESPECIALLY THIS:
"And like Kripke said, the real angels have always been the hunters, that hard, embittered group of people willing to do whatever it takes to save others for no pay and no thanks. Always the hunters no matter what may come down from heaven."
MFWORD.

Thanks. I don't know how to put it in words but I always get a much grimmer read off of Dean than I do off of Sam no matter how dark Sam gets. Maybe because Dean always walked this wire; I always thought that without Sam, Dean might have grown up into some kind of sociopath what with all of that anger. And he hides it really well, like in Bloodlust where Sam, being more naive, can't. Like, I have these predictions for the end but I can never actually express why (and also they're riddled with spoilers). But that quote about the mirror is dead on, I think. For both of them, but I think Sam has a better chance of seeing through because Sam's never had trouble believing he deserved to be loved.

Probably because Sam feels more in control than ever and Dean's more lost than ever.

I think that's a very interesting though, and possibly the key to this entire season.

And you're completely right that Dean has always wanted to be seen as special or a hero, and most of the time he's been denied. Just like in Afterschool Special when Dean loudly proclaimed himself a hero and was scorned, while Sam proved to be more of a hero by taking care of the bully (though of course, in this show there are no absolutes, so the bully was a broken character as well.)

Anyway, I'm babbling here, but I love this meta. Thank you so much for unlocking it so I could read. :D

You're welcome ^^ And yeah, I think the question about what a hero is is a tough one. Sam may have taken care of the bully but then he did what he always does - he left. Didn't write or anything and the other kid ended up killing himself. I'm not quite sure what to make of those implications, but there's continuity there. Sam made a huge mistake but he kind of made it honestly while Dean's confidence was all a front.
