that Ginny meta I always meant to write

Please create the standard disclaimer about how this essay is a peice of crap and I'm so sorry I wrote it and please don't judge me if it's horrible in your heads because I can't be bothered to write it all out. *laughs* But, really, I've wanted to write something about what I think Ginny's character was meant to come off as and what JKR was ( Read more... )

Interesting then, isn't it, that they go in different directions? I mean, the way I read it Ginny pretty much kept on mirroring back whatever Harry needed or thought was cool in the book--not necessarily from her pov but from the author's. She led him away from Dumbledore, she knew why they had to break up, etc. It didn't seem like the fight that was so important for her at all (she had the liquid luck and was still being called pretty through it), but Bill--though there again the Bill thing didn't seem like exactly that kind of deal. Not so much as Arthur's attack the year before ( ... )

Ginny has the luck and that flaming red hair throughout, it's true, but I do think she emerges somewhat changed. It has always been about 'getting' Harry but it's never really been about Harry himself, you know? But in the moment where she leads him from Dumbledore, it becomes less about impressing him than just about taking care of him. If it were old!Ginny, she'd have reacted the same way she did to Sectumsempra; she would have indulged him and been indignant when someone else dragged him away from Dumbledore's body. But she takes him against his wishes and that's different ( ... )

Her 'romance' with Harry was, in my eyes, one of those 'sometimes you get what you wish for' moments. Ginny was working the field hoping that one day Mr Potter would notice her, and he did. Now she knows that it's really not what it's cracked up to be.

YES, I would totally love to think that, too. And it does get around the IoD in that JKR never said anything about Harry being Ginny's ideal man and that line about the ‘scary boyfriend’ is kind of damning. And it would be just like her to turn the genre on its head and have 'fair lady' end up being pursued by 'brave knight' rather than the former instantly falling for the later just because he's...awesome and a knight.

Harry still doesn't see her as anything but a blow-up doll, and I think Ginny might know it tooYeah, I'm trying to do an essay about Harry's thoughts and how they may have tainted reader perspective where Ginny's sexuality is concerned. I'm not sure it's that bad, but I feel like Harry has a long way to go towards actually appreciating her for everything she is. I ( ... )

Thank you very much! :) Sorry for the late reply, I haven't been checking my e-mails.
The beta of my essay is on my page which you should now be able to view. It's about...uh...three entries back or so.
I basically made it on impulse one night, so it still needs some definate tweaking before publication.
