Chinese New Year?

I'm assuming last night was the Chinese New Year. Starting at midnight, there was the sound of firecrackers for about five minutes straight from some uncertain distance to the West and possibly North. That calendar is crazy. Starts in January and ends in February over a year later? And the animals make as much sense as Astrology. All those centuries of hemisphere dominance, and they couldn't figure out that the Earth went around the sun every 365.25 days and that the moon was just a rock? Sheesh.

The Judaic calendar is also Lunar.

I think the Chinese celebrate it more as a cultural thing, since pretty much everyone knows that the current Gregorian calendar is the most accurate.

I think also that the Chinese calendar was kept around because traditionally, farmers and fishermen were more inclined to plan their harvests based on the lunar calculations.
