know how to speak Vietnamese. Any man that I'll marry will be intelligent enough to learn the damn language because God knows how much I want him to get along with my family. He will understand my brother-in-law's dirty jokes. He will respect my mother's customs. He will read vietnamese folklores to my nieces and nephews in the intended language.

Well, look at William and me. William learned sign language so he could communicate with me, and quite a few deaf people have commented on how impressive his signing skills are for a hearing person. I think that, if there is love, there is a motivation to make the other person happy and that motivation can be channeled into learning a new language. :)
