Bringing home a really solid first semester grade report (and making the Dean's List- usually 3.5 or better) at the Holidays does WONDERS for trust with your parents and will give you more latitude in the future (ex. when you want to stay at State over the summers to take classes and, well, not be at home).
I know college is initially a bit like being a little kid in a candy store, but DO NOT FORGET that your studies are your No.1 priority! Srsly, don't be one of those educated rich kids who barely pulls a 3.0 because they couldn't manage their time better their first year (don't think you will be, I know you're an A student and a really bright woman, but I thought I'd throw in the cautionary warning anyway).
Have fun, but always work hard first. It's the best way to go to bed each night with a clear conscience and sleep peacefully.
