Does anyone remember reading that book in high school? There was also an updated movie version of it made with ethan hawke and gwenyth paltrow a few years ago

so refresh me on the book, becuase doesnt the person sending him the money turn out to be the girl?

yeah the part I left out is in the very beginning of the book it starts out when the main character is a kid and he's out playing in the woods or something, and this convict that escaped from the local prison grabs him in the woods and tells him to go home and get some bolt cutters to cut off his handcuffs, and some food for him. After he does that, the convict runs off and the boy never sees him again. Later on in the book when he starts receiving all this money, you dont find out until the very end that it was the convinct sending him the money as a way to pay him back for helping him when he was a kid..

Atleast thats i'm pretty sure thats how it was.. its been a while since ive read it...
