Cryptoethnology is like cryptozoology (the study of hidden or fanciful animal types - Loch Ness Monster, Sasquatch, and Cthulhu all being subjects of this), but as applied to beings one wouldn't want to insult by calling them animals. Vampires are, IMO, clearly in the realm of cryptoethnology rather than cryptozoology.
