i just got back from the pinery a few hours ago! mmmm camping... first tent-camping trip all summer. it was fantastic. summary: campfire, smores, hiking, swimming, ultimate frisbee, more swimming, hand stands and cart wheels, beach walking, yummy food eating, beer drinking, sunset watching, star watching (but missed goign to the beach late)

If you work contract some place in your field, you may find that you have interests in different fields or subjects too. Or maybe it'll make you realize you hate a certain subject or field. Just as long as you find that interest I suppose. I think your plan sounds pretty good!

im in pretty much the same boat. went along university all fine assuming school will continue and the pieces will fit... until i realized i actually need to pick a real area of expertise and a school and a research guide... also i wasnt excited or ready for the GREs so i went with time off too.

um..yeah so..same boat!
