Congratulations! What I found was best was bringing a clipboard full of lined paper to class, taking notes for all my classes in it, and occasionally transferring notes to separate class binders at home. It wasn't a pain to carry around (unlike a laptop or a huge binder) and had the added bonus of having your notes from last class handily accessible when something came up, e.g. unexpected questioning from the professor. Plus, if a friend asks to borrow your notes from another class, they're there! I had a laptop for my last semester of university but it's a lot heavier to carry and I found that I played solitaire a hell of a lot more than I listened to the prof.

Good luck with your first year! :)

i used binders. notebooks are easier on desks but it's just as easy to take paper out of a binder and use it as like a surface. just don't get the fabriccy binders lol.
