And although I rarely buy new music now, I still listen regularly and - when the conditions are right - I get transported to a whole new place.

Most of the people I work with listen to music while they work. It is rare that I can do that. I guess to most people, music is a background noise. For me I think I more actively listen to most music, and therefore can't concentrate on the work at hand while I'm listening.

It sounds like you may be similar in this way as well?

Yes DrS, that's a pretty accurate description for me. I usually listen to music whilst driving or else running. I can concentrate more on the music when running, but driving can be good too. I couldn't listen to music whilst working, unless the work was something really mindless, and even then the music would definitely only be as background.

Long gone are the days when I would set aside an evening to just lie down with a new CD and some headphones and immerse myself in the sheer pleasure of listning to music ...
