Ballet

So, driving the little one home from her ballet class, she asks me, daddy, is ballet a sport?

Sheesh - good question! Is ballet a sport? I was inclined to say no, but could see that ballet can be/is competitive, it is active, it is a form of exercise, so while not actually being a game, it shares a lot in common with a sport.

Thoughts?

I think what you just said was perfect.

Ballet is considered an art rather than a sport because it has more to do with expressing ideas and emotions rather than "winning" or "scoring". But it does share a lot of sport-like qualities when it comes to the "exercise" aspects of things.

Yes, you've hit the nail on the head. I'm pretty sure I said something about ballet being more about expression, but you've expressed it much better than I did: it's an art!

Thanks dr :)
