So it begins...

May 03, 2008 13:26

The sun found it's way to the horizon far to the west of the St. Catherine's campus. The skies turned from blue to orange, red to the black of twilight. But on the horizon an eerie glow remained, longer than should be the case even at dusk ( Read more... )

ooc: question, is this the day where everyone gets their powers switched or is it the day after? if its the day after they may have had time to figure out their new powers, if it is the day of, well...lets just say there is no better way to learn than on the run ^.^

OOC: I'd say it's even a bit further down the week. On Monday, everyone switched powers (or that was the idea), so I think it's safe to say this will be Friday or even Saturday. Something like that. When people have had the time to figure out their abilities. XD Or at least... that they have lost their abilities.

OOC: Agreed. It's not the exact day of the power switch, but a couple of days after. Depending on the character, they may have figured out their powers or they may not have, or may only have figured out enough to have a partial control over them. Depends on each individual character how they want to play it.

I don't quite know what Soi and Shizuru are going to do here so, I'll post it as soon as i figure that out - just wanted to make sure everyone knew i wasn't just missing this.

There wasn't much that broke through Laurian's days, until a few days ago. All of a sudden, she'd lost her Slayer powers, reducing her to being almost crippled and unable to walk. It had been her Slayer strength that allowed her to walk; without it, she could hardly do anything ( ... )

The first wave of undead warriors had already descended upon the dorms. These shock troops had not even stopped to arm themselves; rather, they seemed to delight in the sick, barbaric pleasure of rending flesh with their own skeletal claws. And though St. Catherine's was normally a well-fortified stronghold filled with trained magical girls of every sort, this army struck in a moment of weakness. There seemed little that anyone could do, and the reanimated dead took advantage of that fact.

As Laurian looked out over the battlefield all that could be seen was pain and misery. Even the most battle-ready students and professors struggled to control their new powers, if they had yet learned what they were capable of. Meanwhile younger girls with no combat training now wielded the awesome powers of Slayers or Mages and rushed foolishly into battle only to be overtaken by the unholy horde. If something were not done soon, the entire campus and every memory of the place once known as St. Catherine's would be no more.

This did not look good. Trained Slayer were left defenseless without their powers. Those who suddenly had them, were not trained in the use of weapons and thus just as defenseless. Laurian did not waste much more time. She staggered to the door, worked herself outside, sank through her knees and began to pray. Prayers that usually would be said in her head were now almost chanted out loud for a bigger effect.

A faint white light began to ripple over the ground, with Laurian in the center. Any professor of student who stood inside this circle would get a glimpse of insight how they had to control their powers in order to defeat the army. And any undead inside the circle was soon burning with holy fire until only ashes remained.

OOC: Don't know how large the school campus is and how many undead there are, but... a circle of 50m radius sounds alright? It has to build up, of course. It starts small and then grows bigger and bigger.

Laurian may be all but defenseless, weakened by injury and stripped of all her normal powers, but she still held on to the most powerful force of all...her faith in God. She kneeled in prayer, and seeing an opportunity the undead force rushed to overwhelm her. But at the sound of the Lord's name the evil spirits that reanimated those corpses were forced to flee returning back to the depths of Hell. The skeletal warriors fell apart at every joint, the useless piles of bones smoldering in that holy light until they were mere piles of ash.

Shizuru was up before most people every morning making her daily trek to the surrounding woods to pray for absolution, or at least a way to absolution, for her sins. It was in the middle of her prayers that she was suddenly jolted into consciousness of her surroundings ( ... )

((OOC: Actually, it's late evening rather than early morning. But it's easy enough to say that someone was out and walking around since these guys are going all over the place...)) ^_^;

"Aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhahhhhhhh!"

The sound came as something like a yell and something like a growl, a strange and blood-curdling cry. But the unholy warrior was no mere scout...the skeleton marched forward with a purpose as if it knew exactly where to go; it only had not expected to find a human so far from the main buildings of the campus.

The armor it wore was loose and ill-fitting, originally designed to be worn by something with flesh as well as bone. It rattled as that first warrior charged Shizuru, it's two-handed blade held above it's head ready to cleave the seemingly-defenseless schoolgirl in twain. In the distance two more warriors emerged from the brush, responding to the call to battle. More would certainly be on their way.

((OOC: Your call how close he is, and whether Shizuru has to fight or portals away.))

ooc: sorry, lets just replace that and say she does it twice a day...oh, and instead of portalling can she just portal her naginata to her ( ... )

A flaming skull was not expressive enough to show surprise, but the warrior hissed as his first swing was blocked by weapon that moments ago was not there. Their blades clashed, and the reanimated dead struggled to gain some kind of advantage over the elegant warrior. With that deadlock proving to be a stalemate again it hissed, but this time, the fire that filled its charred skull shot forth from its maw.

Silent like a ghost and just as invisible as one, Vanya moved through the battle field. It was strange, even frightening, to walk amongst those burning undead, knowing they did not come from her and knowing she had no control over them. But they would not be able to see her and so far, this was the only thing Vanya could do.

She knew one thing, though. Such a huge army could not have spawned from the earth all on its own. Someone was responsible for it, probably whoever received her powers. Vanya knew how they worked. A summoned army without the summoner to guide them would fall apart, quite literally. If she could find the person who had summoned the undead army, maybe she could send someone down there to knock the person unconscious.

OOC: Just walking around, finally time to show what all my girls are doing. The interesting ones anyway. ... You know, I wonder how many people will think this was Vanya's work. XD You know... people like Katelyn. XD

Vanya worked her way deep behind enemy lines. The skeletal warriors could not see her. They could not hear her. It was if they were completely unaware of her existence at all. The battle raged on all sides of the invisible Mage as blood stained the grass and the screams of both the living and dead rang through the night.

Then in a flash...every undead soldier nearby stopped in their tracks as they received a new unspoken command. Immediately they ceased their pillage, and instead began searching everywhere as if looking for something. Or someone. Though she may be in the form of a ghost, there are certain people with the ability to see ghosts. Necromancers, for one.

As bad and horrible as this battlefield was for some people, Ralph was actually having fun. She'd seen her fair share of huge fights in her life, both at the army as well as during Haruka's lessons. And even though she was not a Slayer at the moment, she was a witch and she had soon after discovering this explored the fun of flying on a broomstick. She may not be as good as her girlfriend was, but Ralph could keep herself up in the air.

And it was an easy way to deliver explosive surprises to the marching undead below her. Not one of them looked up and even if they did, a skeleton still could not fly. Ralph was careful, of course, to choose those parts of the huge army where no other students were before she dropped her bombs.

Suddenly, Ralph saw something unexpected. Most of the girls and professors didn't get very far, because they had difficulty controlling their powers. But now below her stood Rei. Thinking that the girl had found some way to kill the skeletons, Ralph lowered her broom to land not too far away from her friend.

Unintelligent undead could do little without a necromancer to control them. They willingly obeyed their only order: destroy all that lay in your path. Without further guidance they never thought to look up as they could not 'think' at all. Fiery pupils focused on the girls standing their ground, the buildings behind them, the Slayers' Field, the gardens, the library....everything in their path. Many warriors died a second death, their frail bodies ripped to shreds by powerful explosive forces. Splinters of broken bone littered the battlefield as grenades were dropped one after another, raining down destruction one earth-shattering explosion at a time ( ... )
