History: Katherine Fitzgerald and her brother were left abandoned at a young age. They searched for shelter and stumbled upon the abbey. Father John O’Malley took the young children under his wing, acting as their father. He raised them in the abbey, and eventually Katherine decided to join the abbey as Sister Katherine. She greatly looked up to Father John, respecting him and wanting to follow in his footsteps to make him proud. All seemed to be going well, except one day her younger brother Patrick started to act strange. Sister Katherine let this go unnoticed at Patrick’s request, he didn’t want people to start asking questions or pry into his business. Sister Katherine watched her brother slowly deteriorate, speaking in strange languages, writing and drawing demonic images…she decided to go against her brothers’ wishes and contacted Father John. He recognized these symptoms and realized quickly that Patrick needed an exorcism. Father John kept this silent, though other nuns were becoming aware of Patrick’s random outbursts of foul language and paling skin. In the middle of a dark and stormy night, Father John and Sister Katherine went to Patrick’s room, ready to perform the exorcism. They had no idea that it would be their last night alive. Something went wrong during the process, and the demon in Patrick lashed out, striking Father John so hard that he killed him. But he didn’t stop there. Sister Katherine watched in shock as Patrick nearly shredded Father John’s body. Sister Katherine knew that her brother would be sentenced to death for these horrid acts, and she ran upstairs to get away from him. She would never rat her brother out, but she was feeling too much grief to ever look at him the same. Instead, she told him to run and never return. The human left in Patrick did just this, taking Father John’s body and burying it deep in the woods surrounding the abbey. Sister Katherine took her life that night, jumping off the balcony and falling to her crushing death on the rocks below by the river. The abbey was closed shortly after, once word about the murder got out. The wing where the murder took place was closed down for investigation, but they could never really tell what happened. Blood was everywhere, though there was no sign of a body. And Sister Katherine took the truth of the murder with her, to her death, never to be spoken aloud.
The abbey was closed. And the murder was forgotten.
60 years later, when the memory of the murder had vanished, the abbey was re-opened. But never again would it be used as a nunnery. It was opened as a school. The wing where the murder took place was still closed off, remaining untouched since the actual occurrence.
When the school was re-opened, strange things started to happen again. Faint whispers and strange shadows could be seen, but the students generally brushed it off. Now, St. Dymphna Academy is a private college, providing a great opportunity for students, offering full scholarships and top-of-the-line education.
