The little one would fit in a purse. The others come up to my knees. I'm still undecided about the yellow around the oil, but I think white matting would look weird.
I like the red inner mat a lot but I tend to agree with you on the yellow around the oil. I think if I were playing with matting, I might look at a blue-gray, like what's around the steps or shades of a matte bronze/brown, like on the steps. Maybe even a green.

You have a good eye! The clerk and I looked at a dark green matte and it was a close choice. I think the problem I'm running into is that the painting used to have a cheap white matte taped to it (bought it that way) which made the color a bit less intense.
It's weird - I like the yellow when I'm standing close to the painting but far away, it's a bit too much. I will have to see if I can find a good spot to hang it at the new house.
Oh those are all gorgeous! I'm a big believer in getting art out of closets and up on walls. We've done a bit of that ourselves. I love the frame on the small picture--such great texture!
