When I had my last review I found out that the days I call in sick count against my absence total even when I have a doctor's note. I'm not sure how they came up with their system, but you need to be out at least three days in a row for it to not count against you. At the very least, that's a system I can take advantage of. I could've gone to work ( Read more... )

My job is fucked up like that, too! kinda... I mean, you can call out 5 times a year.. 5 occurrences. One occurrence is any consecutive days of work up to I think 4. So, I left work early today and that counts as an occurrence. clearly, I'll be staying home tomorrow. Saved by the bell is a great way to start a day... this is a fact I know well.

That's even worse...that's like being handed 20 sick days!

What a remarkably nonsensical policy. How is your high-eye?

I'm tempted to let my manager know that I'd be working today if it weren't for that policy!

My eye actually got better as quickly as it got bad. It's already cleared up and I didn't even have a chance to use my medicine. It's just the cold that I started with that won't go away.

First, I hope you get to feeling better soon. But not TOO soon, apparently. What an F'd up way of doing things. My old company was the opposite. Sick didn't count against us unless we were out more than two in a row. Weird....

I'd just think that if you have a doctor's note it shouldn't be held against you. Sure, I'd use up one of the paid sick days I have, but I'm really sick! So I shouldn't get a tick against me for my review.

Sick day policies suck. At my last job, we were rated on attendance as part of our reviews. Missing one day in six months meant you could not get better than a 3 out of 5 on their scale. Idiocy. I bet the salaried jerks who develop those policies stay home when they are sick.
