Lester rolled his eyes. “It’s art.”
“It’s certainly not technology.” Connor sipped his champagne and surveyed the discreet opulence of their surroundings. “Why are we here?”
“Because as well as sponsoring exhibitions the Burton Foundation channels millions into parallel scientific research.”
Connor lit up. “Like the X-Files?”
“Nothing like the X-Files.”
“The Anomaly-Files.” Connor hummed a few bars. “Let’s play. I’ll be Mulder and you can be Scully.”
“Absolutely not,” said Lester. His companion radiated hurt. Lester sighed and surrendered to the inevitable. “If we must, but you’re being Scully.”
