TRUE HEROICS
The microwave pinged signalling the popcorn was done. The smell of hot butter filled the air. Lester picked up the bowl and a litre bottle of coke.
Connor lay on the sofa looking battered and bruised. He gazed at Lester wide-eyed and hopeful, “You will stay, won’t you?”
The entire Lord of the Rings saga in its extended Director’s Cut editions lay stacked and waiting to play. There was no hope that Connor would not wish to watch all the behind-the-scenes extras and bonus features. That meant at least 16, possibly more, separate discs.
Lester sighed. “Fine, but no costumes.”

FORTUNE HUNTING
Becker reigned his horse. He bowed to Miss Parker and Miss Maitland and then focussed on Connor.
“Why are you avoiding me?”
Connor looked sulky. “People were talking. They said you were only interested in Lester’s money.”
So that was it. Becker let his impatience show. “Lester’s hardly in his dotage. And if I were a fortune-hunter there are richer and easier prey to snare.”
“Oh,”
“So you will accompany me on an expedition.”
“I don’t know, I --”
Becker played his trump card. “There’s to be a balloon ascension.”
One look at Connor’s face told him his answer.
