AN: AU Becker/Connor Regency romance of many clichés and unlikely shenanigans. Continues from here. Connor has run away from Becker and is making his way from London to Manchester.

The roadside inns were expensive. Still, with careful management, Connor could afford a simple meal once a day.
His main problem was loneliness. He wouldn’t think about Becker. Instead, he imagined the mill, mentally assembling each loom.
The third night he met Duncan and Tom and they promised companionship. They made camp. Connor fell asleep comforted and woke up alone. His coat and boots were gone, along with his money. He reached instinctively inside his shirt but his ring still hung safely. He closed his fingers around its familiar curves.
It was colder today and wet. He started to walk.
