Lester faced the Minister across an expanse of glass-topped table furnished with a crystal decanter and two glasses. Had he done enough? It had been easier when his sole stake in the ARC had been hurt pride at being side-lined here. Now he genuinely cared and that made fighting for its future much more difficult. The ball was now in his opponent’s court.
A careful adjustment of cufflinks presaged the Minister’s reply. He smiled insincerely. “This is all very unpleasant and unnecessary, Lester. Remember, we’re fighting the same side here. Let’s start over?”
Lester did not smile back. “Let’s not.”
