You know...

...I'm just not getting why Beyonce's video for Put A Ring On It is supposed to be so great. It's women dressed scantily, dancing skankily on a set with no decorations. How is that groundbreaking? How exactly is that "the best video of all time", even to guys? I mean, let's get real - there's no explosions in it, so how could a guy truly call ( Read more... )

Me neither, but then I'm old as dirt, and remember when videos were new and had things like, oh, artistic merit and plot.

I agree, though - there's nothing all that grand about Beyonce's video. It's old, tired, boring, and same old, same old. I honestly don't see what Kanye West was going on about, other than his candidate did not win.

Granted, Taylor Swift's video wasn't exactly groundbreaking or new - we've seen Girl Pines For Boy, Boy Dates Someone Else, Boy Dumps Someone Else And Starts Dating Girl (or, you know, swap Boy and Girl roles) since my day, too.

But at least it had plot.

And backgrounds.

I could see a sense of outrage a bit clearer if, say, the videos and winner were reversed, honestly.

But that's me.

I am told that it has, like, Fosse routines in it. Or something. idk. I don't get it, either, really. (and Pink's video has her chainsawing a tree, iirc. I know which one I'd choose)

d00d. It might have some Fosse moves in it, but it's too bland and boring to be a full routine.

It was just, as I said, scantily clad women dancing skankily.

And that's why I know it's not Fosse. He rose above that.

I wouldn't actually know?

I just thought the entire thing was a bad ripoff of an En Vogue or Madonna vid.

(Chainsaws win all, however)

hmm. One day I'll find and link a bunch of Fosse routines. He was unmistakably a master of choreography, and often imitated, but never duplicated.

Truly a one of a kind talent.

I don't either. It's spawned some fun parodies/imitations, but it says something when those are more entertaining than the original, eh?
