Hoist the Colours
I just ran ye Jolly Roger up the flag pole onboard Brunswick Naval Air Station. Last night’s storm has passed. Low scud clouds raced past in the gloom overhead, pushed by a salty breeze scented by sea.
I’ve three reasons for raising this flag. Firstly I hoisted these colours as a prank; it’s April Fools Day after all. When dawn breaks others will see what I’ve done.
Secondly I’m protesting the closure of this military base. I’ve no confidence this decision was made in our best interests.
Thirdly, I’m angry the Navy has cheated me of a proper discharge, a discharge I earned mind you.
I realize by hoisting colours I’ve insulted the Navy. Point being, I think I’ve cause.
