*sigh* It's going to be an expensive new year. I've bought a shiny new camera, which is lovely; but just after we got back my desktop compy died. As far as we can tell the power supply has failed. She looked up the serial number, then told us that because it's 5 years old, it's a 'vintage' mac, and not only is she not allowed to take it in to repair, she isn't even allowed to pull the information off the hard drive for us, or show us how to remove the hard drive ourselves.

That does not bode well for me to get my writings off my Apple baby's hard drive cause it's 15 years old now. Please let me know if you are successful in retieving your data.

Are you friends with the Elindals? They're ex-max tech support people, could probably give you some pointers on extracting your HD from it if you're not sure how.

Nope, I called as well to double check that what the person had told me was true, and apparently it is. 5 years is too long to expect Apple to remember their products, it seems.
