GHOST TRICK: A+

Try it out if you have a DS! So worth it!

I just finished the game! In fact, I stayed up till 6 in the morning playing it because I couldn't put it down. This is a lot, coming from me, because I almost make a point to never sacrifice sleep for anything.

In any case, a quick doodle and some thoughts. Major spoilers for the ( Read more... )

rant, ghost trick

For the prison thing, I think it was also the whole stealing the gun, taking a hostage thing.

And I thought that he was going to possess Lynne, too. But, thinking back, did it ever specify how long his "reach" was, if that could be it? And was Lynne knocked out at the time, and maybe he has to possess conscious things? But then again, that doesn't explain his using his body...

Also really fuzzy on the timeline for this, but would Yomiel's fiancee be alive in the final timeline? I can't remember...

Gameplay-wise, I found it a bit on the easy side, and kinda short. Which is weird, cause it was REALLY well paced, especially compared to the PW games. Just wish there was more of it.

Still a REALLY good game. Loved the plot, and how everything pieced together.

As far as I can tell he seems to be all-powerful. He could reach Lynne from where he was standing in the beginning of the game, and he can manipulate objects AND people. Maybe Lynne wouldn't be able to run fast enough?

Anyway, I'm fairly sure his fiancee is alive, because I think he gets to reunite with her in the epilogue? I liked his pink painting frock though, maybe it's some sort of capcom thing.

I didn't think the game was too short, I did finish it in 3 days or so, but whenever I started playing I wouldn't be able to put it down. I think the puzzles were okay, except for parts where I would get stuck in inexplicable places (such as me not knowing that spinning the playground toy would get the hobo stuck on it) and stuff like that would take me forever to figure out.

I do agree that the pacing is better, although it probably is because it isn't trying to tie 4 cases together somehow.

OMG YESSSS <33
I liked Cabanela and Yomiel + Sissel. The ending was kind of sad too, Yomiel is the angstiest villain since the dawn of angsty villains.

Cabanela is one of my secondish-favorites, along with Jeego and Jowd. I always thought of Cabanela as "Detective SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE" whenever he came dancing onscreen.

Also that bit where he and Missile twirl into the room was just about the most adorable thing I've seen. : D

Yomiel ;__; Take that, final fantasy, he's angstier then thou!

Hahaha Cabanela is so fun just to watch him walk around. I especially liked the pigeon on the old man's head though... so damn cute.

I do think that Yomiel's heel face turn was a bit quick, but WHATEVER I guess. He turned into an angsty cutie.

I'm saying this as a huge Phoenix Wright fan, but objectively, I think Ghost Trick is a better game

My thoughts exactly. As much as I love PW, I must admit that Ghost Trick has prettier visuals and a story that not only does nicely tie together, but also has less plotholes. Not to mention much crazier hairstyles.
I doubt this game will be anywhere as popular as Ace Attorney, though. Probably because of the reason that you mentioned.

I have to admit, I didn't see the ending coming! Maybe I'm just slow on the uptake?
Nah, only clairvoyants could have seen some of the plot twists coming.
Personally, at some point I suspected Inspector Cabanela, because guys like him often turn out to be villains in AA. So you can imagine my reaction to the phone call. HA! Cabanela is evil! I KNEW IT-- wait, he was being threatened?!I also hope they don't use the same characters, mostly because the story has been pretty much closed and any further addition would simply ruin it. Since the characters don't have the air of mystery anymore, re-using them

Which is sad, right!? There just isn't enough fanart for this game around!

As for Cabanela, I agree that in AA he would be a villain, so I was pretty surprised that he turned out to be good as well. I had no doubt about Jowd though, he looked like a total good guy. And in these games, anyone who wants to die is actually a good guy.

Yeah, I can see Sissel showing up again if only to teach another ghost how to use their powers, but without the mystery of "who he is", which I was dying to find out by the latter half of the game, it really takes away a lot of the urgency. I'm not sure that they can use the same formula again though, but what a great formula!

In any case, I really liked Yomiel too, but who can blame me for liking clever, cool, ruthless bad guys?

Nobody, that's who. And yes, being an angst muffin definitely helps (I can't help it if I'm drawn to lonely villians).

As for not possessing Lynne... I wondered this too. I'm just going to say he wasn't thinking too clearly in the heat of the moment (can't blame him) and that, from a storytelling perspective, possessing his own body to save her has a lot more redemptive power than merely possessing hers ( ... )
