It was a hit and I stood out in the crowd. And it kept me nice and warm in the ~40F rainy weather too.

What a lovely outfit! It looks gorgeous on you. :) Is it based on a commercial pattern that I could look for? I really like the shape of it.

Also, would you mind if I popped it onto my steampunk inspiration board on Pinterest?

The shrug is from Simplicity 1819, modified to make the sleeves longer and wider at the wrists, to give me more of a muff-like effect.

For the skirt, it's just six triangles of fabric sewn together with a waistband. Take your waist measurement, divide by six and add 2-3 inches per piece to give the fabric for gathering. Double the waist measurement for the bottom of the triangle. For the waistband, measure your waist and add an inch and a half.

And pin away if you like! Thank you!

Well that sounds relatively simple, even for a mostly-newbie to sewing like myself. Thanks very much! :)

How lovely! And what a great way to recycle old things and turn them into something wonderful!

Thank you - it was fun to give new life to something that'd been sitting in someone's closet for a decade.

I keep meaning to make a full fitted jacket and keep cheating and making this style in various permutations instead. :D

As an inverterate fancy corset-wearer, I find myself longing after the boleros and the spencer jackets. Plus fitted coats are so much work.
