Gorgeous hands and coloring as always. Lovely atmosphere. John's head is a bit too small I think, but it pales in front of those amazingly done hands with all the little muscles and curves...mmmmm.
*beams* Thank you very much, I'm thrilled that you liked it! And yeah, John's head is a bit small looking, and I think the angle makes it look even smaller (or maybe he just has a big hair. *g*). Muscles are fun to play with, and I'm happy that worked for you!
Are you an art major/professional/semi-professional? Do you use references, have you taken any musculature/anatomy classes? Because seriously, I can't get over how wonderfully you show muscles and tendons without going overboard and how smoothly executed your pieces are with the colors. I'm nosey, so if it's not prying too much, I'd love to know :D
Oh, it's not nosy at all. :) And thanks for the kind compliments - you're totally making me blush. No, I'm not an art major/professional/semi-professional. What I do in RL is not at all art-related, actually. In case you're wondering, I'm a grad student in "not a real science" (according to McKay).
I do use/rely on the references heavily, mostly random photos from various sources - web, magazines, photos taken by me, and well anything really. Sometimes I use myself as a reference, usually by posing in front of a mirror. It's kind of silly and there are clearly limitations so it's not always helpful, but hey, it gives you an idea at least. And I don't know if you already know this site or not, but there's this Japanese site called Pose Maniacs that has human figures in various poses. I've taken anatomy classes, but not for the art purposes (they still made you sketch it though). And even though I'm not even close to an expert, it's helpful to have some knowledge in human anatomy
