Strikethrough 2007 version Mangafox?!

In 2007, several individual LJ users were shut down due to issues of "child pornography" within the Harry Potter fandom. There was a lot of stuff about what constitutes porn and how do you separate between child porn and adult porn if the age of one person is unknown or that person looks old, or they look young but are of age, etc. A lot of ( Read more... )

Hnnng I don't even...):

It seems kind of odd that out of nowhere google just now decided it was an issue and that they should of taken all this down. Personally, I think MF probably got some warnings before hand about this, it's pretty odd to not at least give them a chance to fix what could of been very easily done. It seems like just restricting all the rated-M stuff to people with accounts over the age 18+ would of been the best way to go. Sure, people can lie about their age, but at that point it becomes more the fault of the person making the account and not MFs if someone views rated M stuff when they're underage.

In a sense this kind of ticks me off, because a lot of stuff I wanted to read over the summer was on there but there's always other sites I could go. Life moves on.

Yeahhhh.

It sounds like this was the first time Google discovered all this and the owners of MF freaked out and went overboard. Restricting stuff so that you must have a registered account that says you're over 18 would have been the best. Before, as long as you clicked the link that says "I'm okay with this adult content" etc, you could read stuff. And, there's the issue of acting as police for everyone to make sure that the underage don't see this sort of stuff even if they're trying to. It shouldn't be MF's fault if minors find a way through around the system. It's like putting kids in jail for sexting or whatever.

Hm, it's true that there are other sites, but it's a lot more difficult to use them. You might have to install IRC to download them, and then there's the issue of if you don't like something but you've already DLed all that stuff and used so much bandwidth all the time, the way I used to when I got my manga from stoptazmo.com...
