[Tonight, as the doors begin to unlock there's a burst of static from the intercom heard faintly over the sound of the pouring rain.]

H-hello? ....can you h-hear me?

[The silence lingers for a span of minutes before other voices come out of the intercom. None of them are clear enough to make out what they're saying. The ground rumbles

[He's had trouble sleeping anyway, with all the rain outside, and all things that are going on at night considered. Now after a moment more of listening to the intercom intently, half worried that either those voices will turn out to be staff, half hoping that this really is what it sounds like - somebody else here. His voice is lowered, but he speaks close to the intercom:]

Wait, don't go! Who are you?

[The answer is a door banging open down the hallway.]

[Fuck, this shit, he's out of here. Grabbing the broken chair-leg, and barking a last order in Old Chinese at the intercom before he storms out to follow the noise:]

Fengxiao, follow me!

[The order is repeated a few times, like a broken record.]

[Isn't this interesting? Guo Jia hasn't forgotten what happened to those who engaged the last strange intercom message -- the nurse assaulting patients -- and the rumbling ground is a bad omen. Yet thinking back to their discovery at the west wing... thinking of what there might be to gain from engaging, despite any perceived risk...]

How unexpectedly lively tonight has become! Are you still there?

[Nothing at first. Then slowly as if the earlier static masked it, one voice speaks quickly.]

[He is keeping Cao Pi waiting, but a moment more won't hurt, if he has something to say for it -- so already on his feet and hovering by his door, he succinctly queries:]

[The intercom is silent again.]

[stedelweiss_npc]

[After Ianto speaks, the ground rumbles underfoot just like before. Nothing moves, nothing breathes, all goes still.]

[In the stillness there's the soft of someone breathing against the intercom. Yet no vocal answer.]
