Kagari sat silently in the center of the cell. Dr. Huey was coming within her range. Something she'd been waiting for a long time. In his office she couldn't risk harming him but in here...her fingers tightened into fists. The Director would never have been as foolish. That was fine, an opportunity like this rarely came by more than once.

While she had a lot of freedom as a level one patient, she just couldn't pass this up. Her flames weren't strong enough to torch someone. Not yet. The Sekirei had killed before, one more kill wasn't going to bother her.

She didn't reply. Huey noted that with the same surgical coldness that back at home, he would cut into bodies with - or blow up buildings. He noted her tension incidentally and filed it as fear and denial. It almost invited him to reach out and crush her, and that was why his smile returned, a little softer, more genuine, while he took his medical instruments out of his bag.

Destroy the world and everything in it. Yes, that felt right.

"Please undress," he asked amicably, and pulled gloves tight over his thin, bony hands and wrists. "This won't take long. How are you feeling?"

She was tempted to call up her fire anyways. Kagari normally didn't indulge in shock tactics, but now would be a good time for it. She chose to stand up, making as if she was undoing her shirt. "I told you, it's none of your concern." He wasn't close enough yet and she gritted her teeth inwardly, actually undoing her shirt. "It doesn't matter."

Get close enough, she thought, then you'll know how I feel. Let him think she was afraid and vulnerable. She'd return where she belonged.

Compared to how Kagari had dealt with his announcement to visit her and his offers to help just a while ago on the intercom, now she was surprisingly compliant. It did strike Huey as a bit odd, but he was filled more with approval than with worry. This was a new turn, and it promised more progress than the one before. While he looked through his bag, sorting the instruments he was going to use soon, he answered her.

"Of course it's my concern. I'm your doctor."

He finally approached her with a stethoscope, standing before her and waiting for her to finish undressing.

"You'll see eventually that there's a lot less to be nervous about than you think. As I said, I don't mean to harm you. And you have other things to fear than me."

Even though he didn't say much these days, Tyki still listened - almost unfailingly - to the intercom. It was the only real connection he had out there these days. Leaving was more and more difficult sometimes; going anywhere when he knew that all he'd find was empty hallways or crazy ghosts or security guards or who only knew what was a little bit of a drag on his morale. But it paid off, listening. Sometimes he heard things he shouldn't. Sometimes he found out things he wanted ( ... )
