...at least you can reload a SLR at the trot without serious possibility of falling off. Unless your surname is khan, medieval firepower should be afoot. (byzantines obviously get an exemption!)

... and almost completely squaddie proof. The cocking handle could even be used as a beer bottle opener.

I am still working on the idea of mounted archery, but I need to get my eye back in shooting on foot first!

Mounted archery is a bugger but in some ways easier than ranged shooting on foot as the distance is so much closer.

I was an Army Cadet in the 80's, there is always a special place in my heart for the SLR.

I got the frica vibe too- shall check it out.
Everyone that has handled an SLR wants it back and considers it fondly- just a shame it was so bloody long. If they carbined it for length, rather than ammo guage reduction, then maybe it'd come back.
