Happy Mother's Day.

...Well. No use being morose over it. It's not a big holiday, but it would've been nice to at least put some fresh flowers on her grave.

Erm. Anyway! Is anyone interested in teaching languages? I've been here a long time and I can barely understand half the city. I promise, I can do work in exchange for lessons! I'm really good at ( Read more... )

What languages do you want to learn? I know Japanese and English.

I know... um, whatever language you call this. It seems to differ from world to world.

I've heard of Japan though! Is it a common language? I'd like to learn it, even if it isn't.

We call it English, actually.

Well, Japanese is a language of a whole country... Perhaps less people speak it than English, but I'd say it was a useful language. I would be willing to teach you.

Oh, well then, I speak English! ...A-ah, but that was already obvious. Sorry.

Thank you! I'd definitely be willing to try my hardest! The only other language I'm familiar with is Xingese--erm, Chinese, I think is what it's also called--but I don't understand it beyond a few terms.

Soon, I think. Actually, I've asked around -- people seem pretty interested. I talked to someone whose form of magic seemed similar, too, so I'm hoping we'll be able to get something out of it.

She knows about it. For the most part. And if it does turn into a problem, we can go elsewhere when she--

I...I'm sorry about your mother. Maybe...maybe you could put some flowers in the church for her? Even if you can't put them on her grave...

Oh! Would you like to learn German? I...um...well, I could probably try to teach you...after all, you are teaching me martial arts! It'd only be fair!

Ah, it's okay. It was a long time ago, and. Well. Nothing to do about it now, right? I guess I could. I don't remember if my mom was religious or not, but it couldn't hurt.

German? Ah, sure! That sounds great! I'm... not completely sure where German is, but there's probably a lot of people who speak the language, right?

Oh...of course! I don't mean to be intrusive or anything I...I just thought it might make you feel better.

[a soft giggle] German is the language of Germany! It's the country that I was born in. And I think I have heard at least a few people speaking it. I keep seeing posts by a man who says he is Germany but I don't really understand why he thinks he's...well...at least he can speak German?

N-no, it's fine, really! It does help. Thank you, Miranda.

Germany. Oh. Whoops. That makes sense. Um. W-well, if others are speaking it and you know it, it'll be worth it to learn!

So... there's someone here calling himself by a country's name? Uh. Wow. I'll assume he's either a little crazy, named like the Homunculi are, or there's a world out there with country-people. It's pretty weird, no matter how you look at it.

I speak a number of languages that I could teach to you. Whether or not they would all be useful here is another question, however.

Erm, I'd be willing to learn anything, really. Even if it may not be useful now, surely there's someone else who will speak it? I-if nothing else, it'd be something to do...

[ooc: They'd do the latter, then the former. Meanwhile the Elrics would weep inside.]

Yes, but I can't exactly teach you all the languages I know. Even if you did have enough time on your hands for that, I certainly don't.

[sigh] Well. At the very least, you'll need to pick a language. Unfortunately, from what I've gathered the languages spoken in my world are known by different names in other worlds, so determining exactly which languages you are interested in could be a problem. But, so far I've gathered that a few of the languages I speak are known as "Chinese", "German", and "English" in most worlds - but seeing as you are already talking to me in that language, I can see you won't be interested in learning it. I've also see evidence of Brindisian and Quirmian being spoken, but as yet I have not been able to determine what name they are typically known by.

[with a slight tinge of sarcasm] Of course, I could always just spout out excerpts from all the languages I speak and you could point and tell me which one you want to learn. But that would same some time.

Oh no, I don't think I could even handle learning that many languages! I've so far been given offers for three already--um, Japanese, German, and... Italian? Obviously people will be busy and everything, but I'm pretty good about pushing my limits.

I'm afraid the only other one I recognize is Chinese, which would be the equivalent to Xingese on my world. That would be useful to learn, since I have several friends from Xing! And then maybe I could learn more about Xingese alchemy.

...E-erm. That's alright. I-I'll just. Pick Chinese. Or let you pick. Um. Whichever.

I could teach you some Italian! It's a beautiful language and it's not too hard to learn. English is harder, I think.

I've never heard of Italian! Or, um, English for that matter. I guess that's your equivalent to Amestrian? Anyway, I'm pretty good at memorizing and it'd be nice to understand another language, so I'm willing to learn whatever you'd like to teach!
