I must be a complete idiot when it comes to networking. I've already got a cable modem, hooked up to a router, and that splits off into two computers. I only managed to get THAT set up because of extensive help from Buran ( Read more... )

Ah, don't put yourself down. Networking always seems to be hideously fickle to me. Currently I can't even get the computer next to me even to acknowledge the existence of this one, let alone share the connection.

What OSes are they running? If they're both Windows PCs, check that they're both in the same workgroup. Make sure that any firewall software is properly configured.
Or are you saying you can't even get any sort of link? :P

I tried doing a little network type stuff once or twice, and it always blew up on me. It's like voodoo or something. Try waving a chicken bone at it, maybe do a little hoodoo dance while you're at it. ;>
