Poll
Hey

Never deliberately posted an entry before but am bored here and even though livejournal is where I hang out and read fanfic etc, I have never really got involved in the communities outside of asking for fanfic recs and such. Decided to use it (at least for tonight) for general off loading and seeing if I can get the hang of this process. Don't know anyone here but even if I am shouting into the void, it's no different than writing a diary (for all the world to see) and I might work my way up to writing fanfic and original fiction.

I am a technophobe and if anyone wants to tell me how to insert a volume of text hereon livejournal from a usb drive that would be really helpful. Anyway on to the main show.

My name is Stef and I am irish. But enough about me;)

As you can guess from my pic up there, the film Scott pilgrim this summer blew me away. I had never heard of the comic before but I am in love with Edgar wright who made my favourite movie Hot fuzz and so I went and the film just went and gulfilled all my anticipations and dreams. This is rare because like almost every movie fan (or book fan or music fan) you're anticipation is whetted by the news of your favourite band or author or indeed trailer coming out and you can't wait....And then it comes out and you come out of the cinema with gritted teeth and grubby hands and say Was that it? Because that first film or book caught you on the sly and hit you while you weren't looking on the tv and nothing quite manages that first film you saw when you weren't expecting it. That has happened to me repeatedly yet scott pilgrim just delivered the essence of Edgar wright and all his glory.

It has cult classic all over it- end of rant. Also to prove that I am not an ADD child for liking it(as some of the reviewers seemed to suggest) among my top ten favourite films I like Vertigo, Shadow of a doubt, Sunset boulavard, Sweet Smell of Success, My Girl Friday and It happened one night.

My first music love was The Beatles-the band that all other bands wish they could be. Through them I went on to Bob Dylan, David Bowie, punk rock and all the rest. My latest obsession is with Arcade Fire, M.i.a, Sigur Ros and Florence and the Machine. Please check out Arcade Fire's Month of May performance on Jool Holland if you can
Anyway, fave shows are Fringe, Supernatural, The X Files,Psych,Farscape, Veronica Mars, Buffy, Angel, Twin Peaks,Pushing Daisies, Community and a lot of other shows that I am too tired to name and glorify

Books I like- too many to name but will mention a few-

Jane Eyre- This has been set since before puberty and maybe declares me to be a girl but it's the best!

Jonathan strange and Mr Norrell- it draws you in and is just remarkable.

The God Delusion- I am nailing my colours to the mast here but as I was educated by nuns(until I was a teenager),  this just stated all those things I always wordlessly admitted and wondered myself and questioned all those assumptions that you just allow when you are a child. Just read it...

The Portrait of a lady- The writing is just luxurious and beautiful- this is such a mature novel and so evocative.

The Discworld novels by Terry Pratchett - Just started reading Mort and finished The wee free men. The wee free men was great and I felt like shoving this into children's hands wherever I went. Also poor Mort is a fool for love, isn't he?

This is all the tip of the iceberg and I would be happy to talk to anyone who wants to so give me a shout if I haven't scared you off already. If I am talking to myself, it's been a nice rant ;)  As you can guess I am just fiddling around with stuff and seeing how it works and if my format is all wrong, it's my first time here and I am just learning the controls.

Dunno why this same poll is on either side of the page- my bad;)
