OMG! Those are just fabulous! :P And the best thing is that you like them, normally people are kinda disappointed with their first sewing stuff!
I think at our schools the first bigger sewing project is a hoodie, on 7th grade. I loved the one I made but as it was fitted pattern it doesn't fit me anymore! :/
I can't wait to see the costume! I've made few cosplay costumes and it was soooo much fun :) Good luck with your projects!

ps. there are amazing online craft/fabric shops, use them (cause I can't, they don't ship to Finland! -__-).
Well, I was disappointed with the stuff I did last year, so I made myself put in more effort this time :) Plus I chose things that were pretty easy.
I had to sew a fleece sweatshirt in school when I was 12 or 13. It was about six sizes too big and hideous XD maybe that's why I gave up on sewing.
I shall look up these stores and see if any of them ship here! (That's a horrible feeling, when you find the perfect thing and can't buy it because of stupid shipping :( )
Haha.:P I think over half of my class had too big hoodies cause our teacher said that it's better to take at least a size bigger cause we were still growing :D I'm glad that I did things my way and I was able to use my hoodie for years cause it was soooo cute and fitted well :)
Those stores are located in NZ or Australia, at least so it said when I was looking their websites.. I can't remember which ones they were but I'm sure you'll find them, they had amazing fabrics! You should also try quilting, it's fun! :)
I wish I had more time for sewing projects, maybe later.. now I have time only for knitting, but at least I enjoy it and the socks/mittens are just sooooooo practical right now, so it's fine :P
...Possibly I've already been thinking about this ^_^; Only because figuring out fabric paint is on my to do list anyway, of course.
(really I just want to be able to make my Signless hoodie already - I'm just holding out hope that when winter gets nearer more colours will appear in the fabric stores)
(I don't think I actually need this many hoodies in my life, but I won't let that stop me)

(Its colour theme my have been based on a certain god tier hood... (why am I so predictable?)
I promise I wanted a grey hoodie before I started thinking of it as a casual cosplay item though.)
