How to know you've got real mental problems

I'm reading an interview with the guy that wrote "Bridge to Terabithia" (who it's also based on) and I'm bawling my eyes out. Nerd.

That was one of my summer reading books in junior high. It was kinda sad. I don't remember the book that well, though I don't think the movie follows it exactly. But its a good story, kinda sad if I remember.

you mean the movie? did the book's author's son write it because i believe katherine patterson wrote the book in honor of her son and his best friend. i hope it was only loosely based on them though because the end is terrible! i mean terrible in an emotional sense and not in a literary sense. in the literary sense, it's a really good book. :)it's funny because i finally got around to reading it this past january before i knew about the movie and the movie (in the previews at least) doesn't look anything like the book. but then if the screenplay was written by her son that makes more sense since it would've been based on his imagination as a kid and that makes me feel better about it being so crazily animated. i seem to be writing a novel myself here. i'm going. honest.

Yeah the author's son David co-wrote the screenplay and Katherine wrote the book about his relationship with his best friend and the sad part really did happen (which at least makes it a little OK that I cried while reading the interview I think!)
I agree the previews make it look nothing like the book but the reviews it's gotten so far seem to say that the previews are misleading, thank goodness. Dorian actually agreed to take me to see it!

oh no! i was hoping that that hadn't really happened at all and that it was just an author's way of making a climactic scene. that's too bad!
let me know how the movie goes though. i'm torn.

Annz and I saw that movie last weekend. TOTALLY not what we were expecting based on the previews. In fact, the parts of the movie that were in the previews were pretty much the only ones that looked anything like that.
