Long recap, pictures and video of Sister, Sister from Constantine's performance at Six Flags Great Adventure last night:
Yesterday morning I picked Cheryl up at about 8:30 am. After getting through some construction in Fort Edward, we were on our way. We made good time (despite torrential down pours) until we got into NJ then we were in some congestion and it was stop and go for awhile. We made it to the Best Western in Bordentown a little after 1 but of course we could not check in until 3 pm. We went to lunch down the road at some place called Mastronis or something. It was really good and they gave you a ton of food! We went back to the hotel to wait until 3 and I saw a group of Constantine fans as we were checking in (the only one I recognized was Vicky.) There was a very agitated black man there that said he was going to stay at the Days Inn instead because Best Western didn't have wireless Internet. We finally got to check in and were told our room wasn't ready. We had to wait another 20 minutes or so, then we got ready for the concert. I later heard from tchrgal (from greekspeak) that their room wasn't ready when they left at four - they had to get ready in a friend's room. That is terrible! If you can check in at three, all rooms should be done by three.
We then went to Six Flags and got there about five. Cheryl has a season pass at Great Escape and had a free ticket for me. We thought we would have to pay for parking ($15!) but we told the guy we had a season pass to another park and he let us in for free! Not sure if it's always free like that, but it was nice. The park was pretty desserted and there were a lot of rides closed from the weather (wasn't raining anymore, thank goodness.) It was however, freezing, about 60 degrees and windy. We brought no sweaters because earlier it had been 87 and humid! I had on a pair of dressy brown/beige plaid shorts and cap sleeve blue top that tied in the back with a gold buckle type under my chest. I was so cold! We checked out the stage and walked around for a while, and rode on the ferris wheel. We went back to the stage and watched Alamance (myspace.com/alamancemusic) perform to sets of the same songs. We were not impressed. They were really young and the lead singer sounded nasely and out of tune. Plus the music was way too loud. The lead singer kept pronouncing Maroulis wrong and that was kind of annoying. We were sitting on the bench and towards the end of their show the lead singer said he wanted people on teh bench to stand up and come up front, so Cheryl and I did. It's a good thing we moved up then, because after that it really started filling in and we wouldn't have gotten such a good spot. Finally by this point, I saw Athan, Con's brother (looking really skinny) and Mark Copely and Jamie and Claire, the merch girls. He was here!
They set up, and someone (Winston?) did a really annoying sound check. Jim Boggia sang his sound check to applause. After then were all set up, Constantine came out singing Everybody Loves! I haven't seen him since February, so it was very exciting. He had on white shirt, partially unbuttoned, black paints, rosary necklace thing, and white shoes. He is sounding so great these days - the best I have ever heard him live I think. Then he sang Girl Like You, Several Thousand, Child You're the Revolution, Fading Into You, Sister, Sister, I Thought it was Something, So Long, Midnight Radio and and Encore of Cryin'. (Not quite sure of the order) Cryin' was a wonderful unexpected surprise! Alamance came out and joined in on the chorus. Constantine was really funny last night. Before the performance he was playing with the baboons in the animal park and they were nasty...They heard batman music in the background and him and Jim started playing and singing the theme song...He saw a set list from Alamance and was confused because he thought it was his and didn't know what song "Centipede" was. So then he started making up a song called Centipede. He came down off the stage a few times and was right in front of us. He touched Cheryl's hand. He took flowers a young girl had for him that was standing near us. There was a crowd of about 400 there, ages ranging from little kids to old ladies (there were two drunk 60 year olds standing next to us!) It was a pretty good turnout considering the weather and the fact that the park closed early.
After the concert we went over to the merch table and got the cutest shirts. They're black with a pink heart: one side says Everybody Loves and the other is like a scrolly design. Jamie recognized me from myspace so it was cool to meet her. I also met Nikki, the Girls: Tracey, Allissa and Teena, and Karen. Jamie said Constantine might come out and sign CDs after so we waited, and sure enough, he came out (in a Six Flags sweatshirt). There was a mob around the table and the security guards made us form a line. He signed my CD and said something I'm sure very sweet to me but I was so happy I don't remember exactly. I think it was "Hi there" and there was a look of recognition like he remembered me. No pictures, but by that time my hair was so frizzy, I'm kind of glad!
Cheryl and I then floated of out of there on Cloud Nine. We got to my car and there was something on the window. I thought it was a ticket but as we got closer realized it was someone's sandwich! It was so gross. Cheryl picked it off and I ran the wipers and got wiper fluid on Cheryl! Ooops. We then left and forgot the directions back to the hotel were in the trunk! I thought I could wing it but soon realized we were going the wrong way, and we got off an exit and turned around. We went to Denny's for dinner. It was not far from our hotel but you can make a left turn and the hotel was on the opposite side of the street. I finally did an illegal U-Turn. There was hardly any traffic though because it was so late. Today we had a good ride home except we ran into more stop and go traffic on the NYS Thruway. It was a great trip and I can't wait for Swansea Mall in Mass. next Saturday!
