Hanson at Northern Lights 4/22/08

I finally have time today to write a blog about the Hanson concert. It's been a very busy week!

First of all, I am very glad I happened to be listening to Fly 92 when they happened to be talking about the concert a couple weeks ago, and I am glad that I decided to buy tickets last Saturday even though I didn't have anyone to go with. It was an amazing day. I got to the venue about 1:30 because the Walk was supposed to start at 2, but they didn't end up coming out until a little after 3. There were some crazy fans there! Some of them camped out there all the night before! But I met some cool people too. We walked through Clifton Park to the Crossing with Taylor leading the way. Zac and Ike were also walking amongst the fans and Ike was right ahead of me.

We walked to a parking lot and Taylor gave a little speech. Here is a video I took of Taylor explaining a little about why they do the walk:

(I think he said this walk was their 52nd.) You can read more about the Walk here. Then we walked back to Northern Lights and they spoke a little more, and that was that.

I still have a huge crush on Taylor Hanson...

And Zac has gotten quite adorable himself...

We all got our hand stamped so that we could get into the concert first later that night. My right foot had a huge water blister on it and it hurt so bad! I could not walk without limping for the next day. It was a really powerful feeling though.

I went to Panera Bread to grab something to eat and ended up sitting with another fan that I had met. I learned about the problems Hanson had with their major label and why they decided to go Indie. She also warned me about the fans and said she usually stands off to the side at the concert and not up front. I should have taken her advice...

After that I went back to the venue and waited to be let in. There were so many people there and it was not organized at all. That was kind of annoying. But eventually we got to go in a little after 7, and I bought a bottle of water and took my place in about the second row (standing). The first act, Kate Voegele, came on right at 8 and sang about 20 minutes. She was really good, and she had a super cute dress on. She apparently is on One Tree Hill. The second opener was Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers and they were really good too. Stephen Kellogg had a chat with the girl I ate with at Panera on the walk, and I think he dedicated a song to her.

By this point, a couple of fans had pushed their way up and I was now in about the fourth row. The place was so packed that I could hardly move. People were touching me on all sides, that's how close we all were. It was so hot in there and I had drank all my water already. I couldn't have gotten out of there if I wanted to. There was this one girl behind me that kept pushing to get forward and her and this other girl got into a fight and started pushing each other and swearing and yelling at each other. It was ridiculous, but kind of funny looking back at it.

Hanson came out and they put on an awesome show. It made you forget for awhile how hot and uncomfortable you were. They sang songs from their new album, the Walk and also Mmmbop (acoustic), Where's the Love, and a Minute Without You from Middle of Nowhere. Zac sang Oh Darling! by the Beatles which was a lot of fun. They also sang Joy to the World (you know the one that starts out "Jeremiah was a bullfrog...") At the end Zac jumped up and started swinging from the rafters and then he fell and laid on the stage for a while. It was hilarious.

I didn't bring my purse or my camera or anything because there was a sign that said no cameras or video. But other fans were using cameras so now I wish I had brought it in. But I did find some other people on youtube that took some videos. This girl took some good videos.

The show got over a little before midnight and I had to be to work the next day. That part sucked, but it was worth it. If I see them again I am not gonna try to get in the front! I bought their last two albums this week, Underneath and the Walk. I highly recommend them, this is not the same Hanson as their Mmmbop days. They have all grown up a lot, in fact they all have their own families. Ike has one child, Taylor has 3 and Zac has one on the way.

You can buy their CDs here if you are interested.

the walk, hanson
