Leverage, "The Beantown Bailout Job"

Oh, I love this show so much.

I was e-mailing scarletts_awry during the commercial breaks, so here's some disjointed commentary based on -- and expanded from, since I was vague in certain places to avoid spoiling my sweetie before she watches the episode -- those real-time reactions.

During the first commercial break:

Nate has quit drinking.

And he's renting a condo ABOVE A BAR.

Eliot's reaction to this, "That's very Catholic," actually made me laugh.

The others were trying to talk Nate into going back to the business, and he was refusing. His explanation of his time spent doing what they did: "I was drunk most of the time, to be honest with you."

During the second commercial break:

According to Sophie, she never looks under men's beds because that's where you find all the kinky stuff. And she promises Nate that she didn't look under his bed.

Then later she asks Eliot if he wants to know what Nate has under his bed. Eliot says no. And Sophie says in this sort of sing-song whisper, "Kinky!"

Apparently Nate wanders around his apartment in a towel and a pajama top. And some kind of shower sandals. I...I don't even know. I missed the whole first half of the conversation he had with Hardison during this scene because I was trying to figure out what the hell he was wearing.

Parker does the robot. Parker also observes that Nate's metaphors get creepier when he's sober.

She and Hardison are flirty and adorable.

Loved Nate's discovery of the orange soda in his refrigerator.

During the third commercial break:

APPARENTLY THE BOSTON MOB KNOWS NATE'S FATHER.

I DO NOT KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS BUT OH SHIT.

Fourth commercial break:

I knew the shooting was a set-up of some kind, but I didn't know quite how they were going to pull that off. And I was perversely pleased that, for once, Nate was the one left in the dark about an aspect of the plan, and had to flail around trying to figure out how to respond.

Also, Nate's Boston accent is adorable.

Final act:

Oh, oh the last two scenes. One is wrenching and the other is hilarious. I have to say, good for Sophie for snagging herself a boyfriend. After all the grief and mindgames that Nate put her through, she deserves to move on. I hope he's sweet and kind and normal.

Mind you, I still want her and Nate to shag like bunnies eventually, but I also think that Nate is going to have to earn that. He has a lot to make up for, and scarletts_awry and I talked a lot over the break about how Nate making amends can't be as easy as he quits drinking and it's all better now. It doesn't work like that.

But it was wrenching even so.

And HARDISON. Hardison buying the building so that he can become Nate's landlord. Oh dear.

Oh, Nate so does not do well with people in his personal space.

But he's looking REALLY GOOD.

Hutton got to do a lot of overtly comedic stuff here, of a kind we haven't seen him do previously on the show, and he handled it all really well. Lots of absolutely priceless moments.

And he can turn it on a dime, too; that bit after Sophie leaves when he's studying the drink was a killer.

Love love love this show. Fabulous start to the season.
