Well, I had an intro about how I decided to make this meme Harry Potter-free, but then my computer went crazy, and I don't feel like typing everything over again. Also didn't feel like bolding the questions again. Courtesy of
edgeofthewild , a book meme.
1) Best book you read last year
I don’t remember all the ones I read last year, but I thought Shutter Island was a great book.
2) A book that you’ve read more than 3 times
I’m going to go with One for the Money by Janet Evanovich (and actually, the first 5 or so books of that series).
3) Your favorite series
The Circle Trilogy (Black, Red, White) by Ted Dekker. (He also wrote a prequel, Green, but I haven’t read it yet.)
4) Favorite book of your favorite series
I think my favorite is Black because it’s insanely good, but White had me convulsing in sobs at one point, and sobbing trumps everything. So, White.
5) A book that makes you happy
The argument could be made that I was happy when the hell that was A Tale of Two Cities ended.
6) A book that makes you sad
I was going to go with In the Time of the Butterflies but then I decided to go with any and all of Vince Flynn’s Mitch Rapp books, because I think it’s sad how politics and bureaucracy is affecting our country from finding and eliminating terrorists.
7) Most underrated book
Hmm…um…I have no idea. I might have to go with Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a piece of crap, but it’s just so darn amusing because I kept visualizing Colin Firth fighting zombies.
8) Most overrated book
I recently finished Comfort Food by Kate Jacobs, and I wasn’t really a fan. It was all right, but it wasn’t life changing or anything like that.
9) A book you thought you wouldn’t like but ended up loving
Three by Ted Dekker. It’s the first book of his I read, and I wasn’t sure I’d like it, but it was a dang good book.
10) Favorite classic book
I might have to go with Doctor Faustus by Christopher Marlowe. Maybe because it’s one of the few classics I get, although maybe because that book got me out of taking a test. I don’t know.
11) A book you hated
Twilight. Gag. I watch the movies because they’re amusing (and Taylor Lautner’s hot). But it’s a bad amusing, like, so bad they’re funny. Especially the first one. But the book…I only read the first one and I’d like those 2 days and 8 bucks back please. It’s not even that I didn’t like it. It’s just not good.
12) A book you used to love but don’t anymore
The last book in the Animorphs series because I hate how it ended.
13) Your favorite writer
I really like David Halberstam and Erik Larson, who both write history books…but not boring ones.
14) Favorite book of your favorite writer
Summer of ’49 by Halberstam and Isaac’s Storm by Larson.
15) Favorite male character
I’m going to have to go with Sally Sweets, Stephanie Plum’s cross-dressing sidekick.
16) Favorite female character
It’s a tie between Stephanie Plum’s grandma and sidekick Lula.
17) Favorite quote from your favorite book
Well, I haven’t actually read In the Time of the Butterflies in a couple years, so I did some Googling, and I liked this one:
"And I see them all there in my memory, as still as statues, Mamá and Papá, and Minerva and Mate and Patria, and I'm thinking something is missing now. And I count them all twice before I realize--it's me, Dedé, it's me, the one who survived to tell the story."
18) A book that disappointed you
I might have to go with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson. It’s kind of cheating because I’m still reading it. It’s good, but it’s really stinking slow. I’m just not as emotionally invested as I like to be.
19) Favorite book turned into a movie
Ooh, Shutter Island. I thought the movie was quite good.
20) Favorite romance book
I’m not much into romance, but most books I read do have some semblance of romance in them. You love how I just avoided answering the question? But if I have to cheat, I’d lie and say Pride and Prejudice, because I’ve never actually read it and I don’t think it’s technically classified as a romance book.
21) Favorite book from your childhood
There was this Chip ‘n’ Dale one that’s one of the first ones I remember reading by myself. I don’t even remember what it was about. I also thoroughly enjoyed the Berenstein Bears.
22) Favorite book you own
In the Time of the Butterflies. I’m also a big fan of To Kill a Mockingbird.
23) A book you wanted to read for a long time but still haven’t
I’ve had Les Miserables on my shelf for about a year. I’m actually about halfway through, but it’s been so long since I’ve picked it up that I might have to start it again.
24) A book that you wish more people would’ve read
Obvious choice: The Bible.
25) A character who you can relate to the most
My standby answer is Elphaba from Wicked, but I relate to musical Elphaba more than book Elphaba. But since I can’t think of anyone else, I’m going to stick with her.
26) A book that changed your opinion about something
Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West. It made me realize that the Wicked Witch isn’t pure evil, that she’s just misunderstood. Okay, maybe that was more the musical’s influence, because I didn’t really like the book, but I’m going with it.
27) The most surprising plot twist or ending
Shutter Island. I totally didn’t see it coming.
28) Favorite title
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Hands down, best title ever.
29) A book everyone hated but you liked
I don’t think everyone hated it, but I enjoyed John Grisham’s Bleachers. It wasn’t like the best book ever written, but I enjoyed it.
30) Your favorite book of all time
In the Time of the Butterflies, Julia Alvarez. I read it in high school and absolutely loved it. I love that it’s from the point of view of 4 sisters, and the chapters alternate between sisters, and each sister has a different writing style. Plus, it’s a great story.
