My watch stopped a couple of days ago, so I used my lunch break to go and get a new battery. I just picked the first place that Google pulled up, which turned out to be a woman working independently in a tiny office down the street. She fixed my watch in about 30 seconds (which sure beats the hour wait time at the mall repair shop). ( Read more... )

that's so sweet. a few months ago i went to get my eyebrows waxed, and i wasn't home so i went to a random place in a town i'd never been to - but they wouldn't take my card or check. so i had to go get money from an ATM. she was like "take your time - i'll be here all day. and all week. whenever you can get it to me is fine." i felt the same way - i could have not given it to her, but i liked that she trusted me without knowing me so i wanted to reward that.

I love that things like this happen still. It feels so old-fashioned, like having a tab at the local store.
