Cuddy strikes me as a person who would find relaxing on a vacation a challenge, and House wouldn't make that easy. His mother's new life without John would present some issues for him, too. Their Costa Rica trips would be interesting.
What an incredibly delightful surprise - a new chapter! And, always, such spectacular writing. So much humour: “This is insane," she complains. "Her directions include the shape of the damned trees and the color of the rocks along the road, but we still can’t find her house? What the hell?“ is my favourite. But I also love the insights you offer into the way that House parents Rachel (and the implied contrast with the way House himself was parented) - “You should not go off the road, Mom,” Rachel chides solemnly. “There might be a reason that the chickens use the road -- because the snakes and things off the road are even more dangerous to their babies than the cars on the road are” or her later observation that “You owe me a bunch of chapters, too,” she scolded. But, at the end of the day, what I love most is the way you capture House's anxieties and uncertainties - how to confront his biological father (and his unwillingness to do so in his home); his instant panic when he finds that Cuddy has vanished from the jeep; and the way
