SSHG - Excess of Prompts

Apr 28, 2011 06:23

Once I started I haven't been able to stop, so I'll put all my prompts here for safe-keeping (and perhaps writing some myself sometime) and for use if someone wants one due to lack of ideas:

- Inspired by the fact that Snape did lots of the serious doctoring at Hogwarts (stopping ADs curse, being in charge of restoring basilisk victims, curing cursed Katie Bell) instead of Pomfrey.
Not long into the supposed happily ever after Harry is diagnosed with a rare, ultimately fatal, magical illness that befalls mainly muggleborn and mixed-bloods. Upon desperately touring the healers in search of a cure the Trio learn that Snape, before teaching at Hogwarts, did a rare double apprenticeship as potions brewer and healer at St. Mungo’s. He has actually researched the illness after witnessing a patient’s slow death - and because he himself as a half-blood was at risk. When a newly developed test showed that he wasn't endangered by the illness he abandoned his project, then went to Hogwarts teaching and spying.

It's not much, but Snape is the only one who actually got somewhere with his known research - and maybe he found something able to help Harry now? Unfortunately his research is lost and the man in question dead. Or is he?
Hermione refuses to believe that the man who helped developing Arthur’s cure wouldn’t have used anti-venin. And so she goes in search of Snape. Of course finding him would be just the start, the bigger problem would be to get him to leave his new life to help Harry, again.... She can even understand his reluctance: he appears content and startlingly different from the teacher she thought she knew. I’d prefer if Snape had left Wizarding GB in favour of starting over elsewhere: bonus points if not in the US.

Chosen as prompt: - Severus discovers he's an adrenaline junkie and his quietly successful life post-voldwar II in anonymity just doesn’t cut it. He wants danger, intrigue, plots and pitting his might and cunning against someone - preferably as the unchallenged hero this time! Or as a really cool anti-hero at least.... He embarks on more or less successful attempts to stave off his boredom, exploits getting more dangerous and ridiculous: free soloing, stealing heavily guarded artefacts and promptly giving them back for absurd ransom-demands etc.

Then he comes upon a wizard attacking muggles: he steps up to do battle, heroically defeating the villain. However, as a result of being hexed, he sports a temporary set of horns on his head and when the muggles thank their saviour he reflexively conjures a black half-mask over his head to hide them. The next day SS reads about his heroic exploits, complete with grainy photo from cell phone camera of him in impromptu and involuntarily chosen hero-outfit: a super hero is born.
Failed Auror Potter of all people accidentally discovers his identity and searches him out (SS now being Harry’s idol post-DH after extensive memory - mostly fake for the personal stuff *cough* - viewing, to Severus’ considerable horror) and blackmails Snape into taking him on as obligatory sidekick for his silence. The two stay away from the UK for their heroic shenanigans - until Hermione Granger stumbles unwittingly into the path of their arch-rival.

--------

Chosen as prompt: - Burned out, desolate Hermione goes back in time to befriend 9 year old Sev as someone the same age after she loses her children as well as Harry his son James in a tragedy. Harry, in his black-and-white-view, has developed something of an obsession/hero-worship with Snape over the years and thinks that the Potter’s treatment of him has now come back to haunt them and contributed to Harry’s breaking family as sone kind of karma.
The two believe that a happier, valued non-DE Severus will change all of their histories. And so stole a newly constructed time turner able to travel greater distances, one way only: Hermione would live her live on from the 60s. So after thorough preparations (research, finances etc.) for her trip and de-aging, Hermione goes back to make Severus’ live better as his peer: helping him, supporting him, showing him the good side of the non-magical world and alternatives to becoming someone’s follower for success, strengthening his self-worth. The plan was to bring him together with his great love Lily. But over time her view about the two being destined to be together changes - perhaps not entirely selflessly.... This could be gen too.

--------

- Inspired by Hermione’s weird relationship with her parents: an apparently loved, not mistreated girl away at boarding school hasn’t spent a single holiday after year 3 at home of her own volition. Cutting the one holiday Hogwarts isn’t open every year short by inviting herself to the Weasley’s for weeks. Not sharing sports and cultural tastes (i.e. skying in Switzerland) is one thing; but taking that as a reason to not see ones family at all?! Was anyone since Riddle so ruthless in erasing their muggle background?

Hermione restores her parent’s memory: they are shocked at her high-handed treatment, all the things she kept from them for years and that she ruined their livelihood since of course the practice didn’t survive them suddenly vanishing. (I bet the NHS was delighted about the mess) They reluctantly indulged her desire to immerse herself so totally in the magical world that they didn’t see even their only child most holidays. But this is the last straw: they want nothing to do with Hermione anymore.
With grudgingly paid Ministry-compensation they move to an idyllic English village. Where a few years down the road delightful new neighbour Sylvester Prince moves in who shares Mrs. Granger’s hobby (painting/music/gardening/whatever) and Mr. Granger’s passion for good whisky/pub quizzes/poker etc. and becomes a good friend. Neither has any idea about sharing acquaintances - until Hermione comes to try to make amends with her parents....

--------

Chosen as prompt: - Snape did stay shackled to Hogwarts much to his displeasure post-DH. Turns out there’s a little-known clause that obligates any Headmaster/-mistress to stay on for 7 years minimum.
Everyone expects new/old Headmaster Snape’s reign to simply be more of the usual: favouring Slytherins, and beyond that serve his time as uninvolved as possible. Instead Severus uses his forced assignment productively. To finally change all the things he, as student and teacher, experienced as wrong and harmful at Hogwarts: it’s not as if he can be fired, clings to this job or needs to curry favour with anyone anymore.

So he ruthlessly abolishes the House-system marking ¼ of 11 year olds respectively as evil, expendable, swotty or gallant; installs mandatory English, Maths and Latin-classes; allows Quidditch only on school-brooms so rich kids don’t have advantages due to better brooms; installs clubs so students are forced into socializing with non-housemates; introduces Hogwarts-sponsored robes and first wands for all students (perhaps he makes Lucius donate funds?); plans decent preparation and career advice consisting of more than 1 hour 2 years after people have chosen their electives; creates obligatory wizarding culture classes, establishes minimum-qualifications for teaching....

Hogwarts and wizarding Britain doesn’t know what hit them. But despite all outrage nobody can stop Snape, the changes are within his authority. The Hogwarts Hermione (as well as Harry and Ron - because it turns out that being lazy, mediocre students has left them woefully unprepared for mastering the theoretical aspects of Auror-training, not to mention certain authority-problems due to being used to get away with ignoring superiors) comes back to for her 8th year after rebuilding is a very different place than expected, starting with the new sorting process.
Is Hermione outraged or ecstatic? Has she lots of unasked for ideas to assist Snape, to his horror or delight?
