Today I met with the florist, and that was quite lovely. I talked about my impatience with gerber daisies and red roses, and she seemed to be on the same page. There will be glads and belles of Ireland and hypernicum and spray roses and lilies and stuff. I did not dig in my heals and insist on dahlias, because I know they can be pricey. Gerber daisies are pretty popular aren't they. I think my florist tossed in a few to go with the dahlias I had. We had very few flower arrangements but I did go for the dahlias.
I think you should push for the basil. But that is because I love the scent of the stuff.

Gerber daisies aren't real to me. They seem like plastic flowers. Perhaps it's because I've never seen them growing in nature? I don't know. She said something about gerbers, and I turned up my nose and asked what alternatives there might be for the contrasty reds. Now I can't remember just what we settled on.

I think herbs are an often overlooked obvious choice for greenery. Basil in particular holds up really well and it smells delicious. We did talk about seeded eucalyptus, which is fine, but nothing gets me fired up as much as those awful little ferns. Except maybe a red rose, a carnation, some baby's breath. Did somebody say 70s prom?
